Introduction
Yoga4Kids offers an exciting educational and age appropriate yoga curriculum, which combines the exploration of the body, mind and self. The principles of yoga practice help children acquire a lifetime attitude of wellness, develop personal responsibility and physical fitness as well as enhance learning at school while building confidence.
Yoga4Kids implements kundalini and hatha yoga postures which teach children the ability to be present in and aware of their bodies. Classes are offered privately and at various schools and are divided into Yoga Tots (ages 3 7) and Yoga Kids (ages 7 11). An average class is 45 minutes long and begins with 5 minutes of breathing, 30 minutes of yoga postures and the last 10 minutes are set aside for stillness and relaxation (at the end of the class).
Why Yoga for Children:
Yoga has been heralded as the latest de-stressing activity for children both in the United Kingdom and United States. Children in today's society need a break from the huge expectations and fierce competition placed on them from the outside world. Yoga4Kids recognizes the individuality of each child and the class is a non-competitive space where children are taught to breathe deeply and smoothly and sustain their focus and concentration, developing strength, flexibility, balance, mental clarity and emotional intelligence.
Yoga4Kids presents this program as an effective and measurable methodology to achieve lifetime physical and mental health.
Additional reasons include:
Children are over-stimulated and need to learn skills necessary to shut off
Children are under constant pressure to compete and perform
ADD/ADHD is increasing
Higher rates of low muscle tone are prevalent
Increased stress results in decreased attention span, concentration and social skills
Children lack good nutrition thus obesity is on the increase
Depression and anxiety in children is increasing
Children do not know how to express or free emotions
